VOICE
LESSON TIPS
By Vocal Coach Carole Lynne

And information about how the Singing for the Soul Series can help you learn to sing!
Can a professional singer benefit from the Singing for the Soul Series?.
Absolutely. Professional singers know that we must practice for a lifetime to keep our voices in good shape. Because of the way the lessons are formatted, each student practices the singing techniques with songs of their own choice. Experienced singers can choose more difficult songs, while beginners will work with easier songs.
Can beginning singers benefit from the Singing for the Soul Series?
Yes, beginning singers will receive great benefit from this type of vocal training. Each singing technique is explained clearly. The beginner will learn each technique and then practice that technique. Because of the way the lessons are formatted, each student practices the singing techniques with songs of their own choice. Beginners can choose songs that are easier to sing, and when they become more experienced singers, choose songs that are more difficult.
Do I have to have a naturally beautiful voice?
Think about the singers that you like the most. Do they all have what we would call "naturally beautiful voices?" Some of the most famous singers of the world don't have beautiful voices. Great singers of popular styles sound great because of the way they use their voices. They add vocal style!!!! We like different singers for different reasons. Yes, there are singers that we appreciate because of a beautiful voice. But we appreciate other singers because of their sense of rhythm or maybe because of the unique sound that they have, which may or may not be beautiful.
So, you do not have to have a beautiful voice to benefit from these lessons. All you need is a voice and a desire to learn how to sing correctly and then to experiment with your voice as you develop your own unique vocal style.
I want a pop sound. Can I avoid sounding classical or overtrained?
The great thing about this singing method is that you will learn the techniques from the classical world of singing that will help you to protect your voice from vocal strain, but you will add the style to your voice that appeals to you. Think of it this way: the basic tone and breathing is the "cake" and the style is the "frosting." Add whatever kind of frosting you like to the basic cake! In other words, you can add whatever kind of style sounds you want to a good basic vocal tone. None of Carole's students sound classical unless they want to. Most of her students sing folk, jazz, blues, folk, country, new age, etc. (Students who want to develop a traditional classical style should study with a classical teacher.)
